Raw, unwashed wool... plain and simple. We shred the wool and then form it into pellets - no chemicals, no additives.
Wool pellets can be used for mulch, as erosion control, to add organic matter, or as a soil additive to conserve moisture, especially in pots and raised beds. Wool pellets have the added benefit of being a slow-release natural fertilizer (approximately 13-0-0*).
Wool pellets are relatively new and are being field-tested for new uses. If you have any ideas, please reach out.
*Note that values can change and are dependent on the wool being processed. 13-0-0 is a value tested from several samples of various wools we had in storage.
We pellet for anyone. Not just the producers we shear for. If you have wool that you would like to pellet, please reach out directly to - mb.shearing@gmail.com
We do not travel with the shredder and pellet mill because of the equipment's power requirements and throughput limits. However, we do work with producers to set up a time to receive raw wool at their convenience, or we can pick up during one of our shearing routes if possible.
Wool hangs around for a while.
1 to 3 years, depending on soil conditions. Shredding the wool helps with the pelleting process and improves the breakdown and ease of incorporating into the soil.
If used as a mulch, the pellets often form a semi-felted mat over the soil.
Pellets do not remain in pellet form once exposed to moisture either through high humidity or direct contact with water.
We are a proud Kansas company. While not all of our shearing work is in state, all of the pellets are made in Tonganoxie, Kansas.
